Mark Fleck
July 4, 1952 – August 28, 2026
With his loving family by his side, Mark Fleck passed away peacefully at Trinity Hospital on August 28, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.
Mark Craig Fleck was born July 4, 1952, in Lake Preston, SD to Glenn and Marliss (Holm) Fleck. He was raised in Rugby, ND and graduated from Rugby High School in 1970.
Mark attended Minot State University and eventually began his career as a grain trader, working in the industry for many years before eventually retiring from a consulting position with Construction Engineers in 2022.
On August 20, 1977 Mark married Margaret Winden of Alexander, ND. Together they had one daughter, Mallory. With his family, it was Mark’s greatest joy in life to spend time at their home on Lake Metigoshe pontooning, snowmobiling, entertaining, having bonfires, cooking “garage breakfasts,” and simply visiting with neighbors and friends.
Mark was an avid outdoorsman and had a deep love for nature. In addition to hunting and fishing all over North Dakota, he took many trips to Canada to fish, as well as hunt moose, deer, and elk. He kindled many special friendships through his outdoor adventures. But more than anything, Mark was proud to be a grandpa and loved to spend time with his grandsons, Brantley and Bristol. They were his pride and joy. He loved teaching them about life, attending their sporting events, and above all, enjoyed simply spending time together. In 2016, Mark achieved his life’s dream by moving to Lake Metigoshe full time and building a home in the Turtle Mountains. He loved spending the last 10 years perfecting his yard, landscaping, gardening, reading the news, meeting friends for coffee, going for drives, and enjoying his patio.
Mark will be remembered for his love of his family and a great meal — preferably together — always followed by dessert. Also his willingness to give thoughtful advice, generous spirit, and his love of striking up a good conversation with those he cared about.
His loving family includes:
his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret and daughter Mallory (Chris) Brown; grandchildren Brantley and Bristol; siblings Dakota (Alan) Lund and Jon (Randy) Fleck; mother-in-law Vivian Winden; sisters-in-law Jean Berger, Mary (David) Njos, and Karen Fehr; brother-in-law Don Winden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Marliss Fleck, father-in-law Roy Winden, sister-in-law Joyce Kaiser and brother-in-law Jon Berger.
A private gathering for family and friends will take place at a later date.
