Darlene Van Arsdale, 86, Minot, ND, died Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Trinity Homes, Minot.

Darlene Faye Sorenson was born March 20, 1939, the daughter of Harold and Ethel (Stene) Sorenson, in Ryder. She attended school in Ryder for two years. She then attended school in Riverdale until her family moved to Minot in 1955. She graduated from Minot High School in 1957. She attended Minot State University, graduating with a degree in Liberal Arts.

Darlene was employed by the Department of Defense at Minot Air Force Base where she met Doyle. She married Doyle Van Arsdale on May 29, 1976, at Chapel 2 at Minot Air Force Base. They made their home in Minot until they moved to Madrid, Spain in 1978. They lived in Spain for three years. They returned to the United States and lived in North Carolina then Colorado. They returned to Minot in the fall of 1983.

Darlene and Doyle traveled extensively, both internationally and throughout the United States. Doyle passed away December 2, 2008.

She was active as a volunteer with the Minot State Alumni Association, Hostfest, and the local Danish Society. She served as secretary/treasurer of the Torreson Officers Wives Club while in Spain. Darlene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She hoped to be remembered fondly in the hearts of all the many lives she touched and wanted no remembrance service.

Her loving family includes: daughter, Kelle (Bruce) Olsen; grandchildren, Matthew (Jade) Olsen, Michael (Brooke) Olsen; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doyle; brothers, Dale and Jerry; sister, June.

Interment: A private graveside service was held at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Memorials: are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church, Minot or charity of donor’s choice.
