Darold L. Dyke, 86, Plaza, ND, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in a Minot hospital.

Darold Luverne Dyke was born on April 28, 1940, in Minot, ND, a son of Delbert and Pearl (Gunderson) Dyke. He was raised on the family farm near Plaza, ND where he attended country school until the 8th grade. He then graduated from Plaza High School 3 years later.

On October 19, 1968, Darold was united in marriage to Judy Bottleson at Bethel Lutheran Church in New Town, ND. They raised a beautiful family while tending to a farm of small grain crops and cattle. In the later years, they enjoyed winters in Arizona.

Darold was strong in his faith, carrying his beliefs with quiet conviction throughout his life. He was a member of both Spring Valley Lutheran Church and Shell Creek Lutheran Church. He was an observer, incredibly smart, hardworking, independent, and organized. He was very innovative at building and welding and could fix nearly anything if he looked at the problem quietly for a while before finding a solution.

Darold played guitar and sang classic country songs in several bands. He enjoyed playing tennis and volleyball, fishing, hunting, and trapping. He was known for giving fun nicknames, being a sneaky pool shark, and observing games rather than participating. Darold always supplied sweet treats like candy and many flavors of ice cream when camping with his family. “How is the weather there?” or “How much rain did you get?” were frequent statements he made. He also loved showing off his injuries, no matter how little or big.

Darold was a man who loved his family deeply and showed that love through his actions. We were truly blessed to know him, learn from him, and love him.

Darold will be missed by all who loved him dearly: Son, Branon (Sherry) Dyke; Daughters, Nikki (John) Wittenberg, Marcy (Paul) Westgard; Grandchildren, Marissa (Daniel) Connor, Miranda (Isaac) Massey, Shelby (Joe) Von Wahlde, Jared (Savannah) Wittenberg, Conner Dyke, Gage Wittenberg; Great-Grandchildren, Miles Massey and Addison Connor; Sisters: Avis (Neil) Berger and Dorothy Steinke.

He was preceded in death by his wife Judy, his parents Delbert and Pearl, and his sister Betty Dyke.

Funeral: Thursday, May 28, 2026, 1:00 p.m. at Shell Creek Church, Plaza, ND.

Interment: Spring Valley Cemetery, rural Plaza, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
