Eileen Skowronek, 102, Minot, died Friday, July 25, 2025 in a Minot assisted living facility.
Eileen Eva was born on November 3, 1922 in Minot, ND to John and Sena (Hansen) Hoellinger. She was raised on the family farm in Margaret Township of Ward County near Minot and attended country school prior to graduating from Minot High School in 1940. She continued her education at Minot State Teacher’s College where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Education in 1944. As a young adult she taught school in Towner, ND from 1944 until 1947 and at Minot Business College for twelve years.
Eileen married Walter Skowronek on June 20, 1949 in Minot. They made their home in Minot until 1959 when they moved to Garden Grove CA for four years until returning to Minot where Eileen again taught at Minot Business College before becoming a fulltime wife, mother and homemaker and Walt served as the Business Manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Walt died on June 12, 1985 and Eileen continued to reside in Minot most recently at The Parker Suites and Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Center for the past 5 years.
Eileen was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and a former member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and Little Flower Catholic Church where she was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Also, she was a member of the Town and Country African Violet Club and PEO Chapter AG.
Eileen especially enjoyed reading, gardening, playing bridge and her African Violet collection.
Eileen is survived by her daughter: Mary Davis of Henderson NV, daughter-in-law: Terry McGinnis of Verdi NV; grandchildren: Jerad Davis, Sydney Lloyd, Jennifer (Phil) Halstead, Johnny(Molly), David (Becca), Angela, and Michael Skowronek and 8 great grandchildren; sister: Donna Hott of The Villages, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: John; grandson: Justin Davis siblings: Angeline Hoellinger, Genevieve Hoellinger and Darlene (Jerry) Hendershot; and brother-in-law: Jack Hott.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church – Minot. A delayed stream of the service will be available the following day at a link provided on the obituary page.
Visitation: Monday, August 4, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Monday, August 4, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel – Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park – Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Bishop Ryan High School Foundation and St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
