Larry Holbach, 86, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living, Minot.

Larry John Holbach was born June 9,1938, the third child of John and Margaret (McNamara) Holbach, of rural Minot. He was raised and educated in Minot, attending St. Leo’s Grade School and High School, graduating in 1956. During the years he was very active in the Afton 4-H Club. He won many local and national awards while a 4-H member. After graduation he began farming and raising Brown Swiss dairy cattle and fat steers. Throughout the years, he drove school bus for Harrison School and also delivered daily newspapers throughout the area.

He was once married to Judy Walker. They were blessed with four children.

He served on the Harrison Township Board, the Harrison School Board and on the Minot Planning Commission. After retirement he enjoyed raising chickens and sharing the bounty with many. He enjoyed seeing the country as part of Farmer’s Union travel groups. He traveled to California, Nashville, the Grand Canyon, Mackinac Island, Washington, D.C., and many more.

Larry married Marilyn Lawler on January 14, 1989. Together they enjoyed improving the farmstead by planting and caring for many trees and peonies. Marilyn passed on February 25, 2024.

Larry moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in 2019 and formed many lasting relationships with the staff and residents. His family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Edgewood Vista, Caring Edge Hospice and FirstLight Home Care for their wonderful care and treating him like family.

His loving family includes: children, Randy, Cindy, and Mitchell, along with their families; sisters, Julane (Dick) Matejovsky, Eileen Larson, and Marietta Clemens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 35 years, Marilyn; son, Chris Holbach, and father-in-law, Darrell Lawler, brothers-in-law, Thad Larson and Larry Clemens.


Liturgy of the Word Service: Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Friday one hour prior to the service at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Larry’s memory to the Minot Public Library, 516 2nd Ave SW, Minot.
