Loren Hatchard, 87, Minot, died Monday, July 28, 2025 in a Minot care facility surrounded by his family.
Loren was born January 27, 1938, in Minot, ND to Francis and Evelyn Hatchard. He grew up in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1956 with only six tardies on his record.
Loren enlisted in the US Marine Corps on November 29, 1956. He served his country honorably until his discharge on November 26, 1958. He returned to Minot.
Loren was once married to Janice Prizmas. They were blessed with two children, Kele and Mark. They made their home in Minot.
Loren found his niche in the food industry as a salesman/supplier of equipment and supplies. He purchased Valley Store Supply from Alex Prizmas and owned and operated the business until 2010. He was named salesman of the year by the Grocery Association numerous times during his career and to many was loving and respectfully known as the original ‘GOAT!’
Alongside Loren on his journey through life was his wife Betty Weiler. They married on September 9, 1972 and were blessed with a son, Forrest. Together, they enjoyed endless hours in the store serving customers that became the best of friends. Loren deeply valued the relationships he developed during his career and friendships that lasted his entire life.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot. Loren enjoyed the outdoors. He was often found with a golf club in his hand or watching the latest tournament at the ‘Sugar Shack’ to pass the time. Hunting and fishing were the perfect settings for the occasional ‘bump’ or ‘snapper’ to complete many memorable trips with family and friends. Many good times were had around the table with lively conversation and more than a few ‘zingers’ delivered by Loren to his friends. His wit was often unmatched and his kindness was often delivered with his easy smile.
We will all miss you, you truly were the ‘GOAT’.
Loren is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Hatchard, Minot; children Kele (Michael) Monteith, New Richmond, WI and Mark (Pam) Hatchard, Carrollton, TX; sister Kathy (Don) Mason of California and brother Larry (Margaret) Hatchard, Minot, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, son Forrest and sister Karen Keeler.
